This small RV and tent campground north of Jacksonville, Florida is a great place to enjoy some quiet nights for only $20 a night!
Our last stop before entering Florida was at Traders Hill Campground outside of Folkston, Georgia, just a short drive from Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. We had initially tried for reservations a bit further north in Georgia but we couldn’t find any openings for the dates we needed. I found this campground in my search and gave them a call. Reservations weren’t needed, but they appreciate knowing that you are coming. For only $20 a night we had full hookups and our pick of campsites.
Upon arriving Wednesday night we checked in with the campground host, paid for four nights, and picked a site near the back of full hookup section. We were allowed to park our trailer any way we liked in the grass site and proceeded to park at an angle to the road for best access to the hookups.
The campground has a county sheriff living on site, so we felt safe our entire time there. The camp hosts were available by phone if we needed anything, and it was overall a pleasant and quiet few days. The river and boat ramp are a short walk down the hill, but otherwise there wasn’t a whole lot to do in the area.
As of this post the campground is expecting renovations to its sewer system and upgrades to the bathhouse in late December. Campers will be allowed to stay but full hookups won’t be available during the construction and there is no dump station on site.
How to get there
Traders Hill Campground is located off of Okefenokee Parkway, south of Folkston, Georgia. Jacksonville, Florida is about an hour south of the campground.
Amenities
Full hookups (water, sewer, 30 and 50 amp electric) are provided for RVs, and tent campers have a separate section that has picnic tables and fire pits. There are no picnic tables or fire pits in the RV section. A pavilion is also available for rent and is often used for family gatherings and weddings. There is a bathhouse for anyone needing a hot shower, and the office has a small store with some canned goods and other necessities should you not wish to drive into town.
The camp hosts also make flavored ice cones during the weekends, which our kids thoroughly enjoyed.
What to do
Since the Saint Marys River is close, boating and fishing are popular activities here. Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is nearby, and we loved our visit there. Folkston provides all of the necessities, and Jacksonville is close enough if you wish for more city-like activities.
We loved our stay at Traders Hill Campground and look forward to another stay in December. Should you find yourself in the area I highly recommend you consider staying there.

For years the restrooms at Traders Hill Campground have been more than deplorable! Hope the sheriff has had to view such nasty and deplorable restrooms that I am sure he would not use. Using the woods for relief would instead be 100+% much better! Please do something to upgrade this horrible restroom situation so people can enjoy this beautiful area!
