Dash Cam Review: BlackVue DR590X-2CHPlus

In preparation for our return to full-time travels we decided to purchase a dash cam for our 2013 F350. After researching our options I decided to go with the BalckVue DR590X-2CH dash cam. As the name implies, this particular dash cam has two channels, one for a front-facing camera and one for a rear-facing camera.

The unit comes with a front and rear camera, a cigarette lighter power cable, a rear camera connection cable, cable clips, a microSD card and microSD card adapter, and a hard wiring power cable.

For our initial installation we decided to use the cigarette lighter power cable instead of hard wiring it directly into the vehicle’s power system. We may decide to hard wire later, though.

Installation was as simple as connecting the cables to the cameras and hiding the wires along the headliner, window trims and molding, and beneath the dash. These spaces in our truck were not tight at all and took just minutes to push into place.

The cameras are held in place by mounting tape. We’ll see how well this holds up over time.

So far we’re happy with the video quality of these cameras. The images are clear enough for us to recognize objects in the video and even license plates if we are close enough. We’ve not driven at night so we have yet to see how well the camera performs after dark.

This is what the app looks like while viewing the saved videos. I can switch between front and rear view of the same location, navigate to a specific second within the video, and skip forward or backward to the next or previous video.

We don’t have any previous experience with dash cams so we’ll see how well this BlackVue camera works for us. With how many close calls we had during our first three years of fulltime Rving we’re happy to have anything that will help us with any potential disputes.

Do you have a dash cam? Which one do you have? What do you think of this BlackVue camera system? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear from you!
